What inspired me?
Lichens on a rock.
I love the process of making my art. I begin with an idea in my mind, and usually on paper too, of how I want the finished piece to look. Sometimes my initial inspiration and the final result match. Sometimes they are not even close, because the painting seems to take on a life of its own.
Do I mind?
No. As long as I've produced art I'm proud of, that's all I ask. I enjoy the evolution of the work: making decisions, adjusting, re-evaluating, adjusting again. Repeating the process to completion.
This was such a painting. It began as a celebration of lichen patterns and textures, but evolved into a celebration of pattern and texture.
I also enjoyed the way the painting looks from different orientations. It may be displayed in different ways, according to the owner's preference.
